Riverfest Mini Maker Faire - August 19 - 21Kansas City's original grass-roots mini Maker Faire is returning again this year as part of Parkville Day's Riverfest, August 19 - 21. We have our work ahead of us as flooding along the Missouri River is expected to continue into August. Plans are being made in the event we need to move to higher ground.
The man-made portion of this flood is controlled by the Corps of Engineers at the Gavins Point dam which is increasing its output to 150,000 cubic feet per second starting June 15th. To help visualize this much water coming at us, 150,000 cfs is like a wall of water 1 foot thick a little more than the size of 3 football fields each and every second of the day while the flood gates are open like this. Another way to look at it is the rate of flow from this one source alone would fill Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium somewhere between every 10 to 15 minutes continuously for the next few weeks.
