Randy's Solar Collector Project
It uses a compound parabolic trough that focuses light on a vacuum collection tube. A plumbing system (built from off-the-shelf parts at the hardware store) carries water into and back out of the tube.
The more speculative aspect of the demo involves what can be done with this, including pre-heating water for domestic use, home heating, and DC power generation using Peltier junctions.
