Orbit - Dark MatterMake:KC participated along with the HMS Beagle Science Store supporting the Orbit performance at Union Station's Gottlieb Planetarium. We each manned informational booths in the gallery area to interact with patrons before, between, and after the performances in the planetarium. This live performance is an original composition by the Kansas City based group, Dark Matter. The Kansas City Star published a great review titled Dark Matter's 'Orbit' at Union Station planetarium. Although there were no MakerBots on-hand to display their capabilities, this event provided an opportunity to describe the role that devices like these could eventually play in deep space human travel. By participating in this event we were able to introduce people who otherwise were not aware of the Maker Movement, Make:KC, and other opportunities to actively participate with maker-based groups around KC. The Passion of Science. The Logic of Art. Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station, Kansas City Missouri. Four Performances Only: February 4th, 2011 7PM and 9PM Experience the beauty of the cosmos with an incredible journey into space. Astronomer Bob Riddle will guide you through the solar system and beyond while original electro-acoustic music gives you the feeling of weightlessness. Composers Daniel Eichenbaum and Richard Johnson collaborate with performers Rebecca Ashe and Cheryl Melfi to create live music under the Gottlieb Planetarium's sixty-foot dome. Presented in full-screen projection with surround-sound, Dark Matter is an audio-visual treat you won't soon forget. Look Up. Make: KC will have a table at this event to display before, between, and after the presentations.
